ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND SCREENING GUIDELINES INTO UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES OF THE UNIVERSITY FOR THE 2011/2012 ACADEMIC SESSION
I write to forward to you the Senate approved guidelines/bench marks for the 2011/2012 academic session, screening/registration exercise.
Cut-off mark of 180 UTME points and above for candidates who applied for degree Programmes in the faculties of Arts, Education, Science, Law, Management Sciences and Social Sciences;
2. Senate further approved the following Post UTME screening pass mark for each Faculty:
i. Faculty of Arts - 40%
ii. Faculty of Education - 40%
iii. Faculty of Law - 40%
iv. Faculty of Mgt. Sciences - 40%
v. Faculty of Science - 40%
vi. Faculty of Social Sciences - 40%
Other approved registration and screening guidelines for undergraduate
Programmes of the University are:
Candidates Must present their original academic certificates (No Statements of Result or Online Slips) and certificates of State of Origin, Birth certificates/Age Declaration, Marriage certificates/Declaration, Change of name (s) where applicable for screening before registration.
Note: The University WILL NOT entertain cases of change of name after registration/matriculation.
UTME candidates must in addition to 3(i) above present their original UTME result slip for screening. The minimum acceptable UTME score is 180 and above, or as otherwise directed by the Vice-Chancellor/Chairperson, Central Admissions Committee. On-line UTME slips will not be acceptable for screening/registration. Any candidate who up to the point of screening/registration has not received his/her JAMB slip with embossed photograph has to go to JAMB and obtain same, provided he/she does this within the stipulated time.
The following shall qualify for registration into 200 level provided they meet the ‘O’ level requirements as specified in the general entry requirements by JAMB and departmental requirements.
a) NCE holders from recognized institutions with 9 points and above;
b) IJMB holders from recognized institutions with 6 points and above;
Diploma holders from recognized institutions passed at upper credit level plus 5 ‘O’ level credits obtained at a sitting. Candidates with lower credit may be considered for registration provided they meet ‘O’ Level requirements, but on the discretion of the Vice-Chancellor/Chairperson Central Admissions Committee.
No subject shall be counted at both ‘O’ Level and ‘A’ Level in both cases listed in (iii a-b);
In addition to (iii and iv above), only DE candidates whose names are in the JAMB printout will be registered. (The copy of the printout has been copied to computer sets in Deans office)
Candidates must combine not more than two sittings to qualify for registration in all cases.
DPM, ADHM and Registered Nursing Certificates are not acceptable qualification for entry into undergraduate programmes of the University. GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the entry requirements specific to individual faculties or departments, the following are the general entry requirements approved for admission to the first degree programmes of the University by JAMB.
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME)
Applicants must write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and attain an acceptable score in the use of English and three other subjects relevant to the proposed course of study.
Prior to sitting for the UTME, applicants should have attained the age of 16. For a candidate who has attained the acceptable standard in the UTME to be registered for a course in the University he/she must obtain:
Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level) or equivalent with Credits in five (5) subjects relevant to the courses and obtained at not more than two sittings.
Direct Entry (DE)
Applicant with one of the following qualifications may be considered for admission by Direct Entry:
A minimum of five (5) subjects passed at not more than two sittings with at least two at the principal or advanced level of the GCE and the others, at credit level of the SSCE/GCE O/Level. No subject shall be counted at both Ordinary and Advanced levels. Passes in two major subjects at the NCE with SSCE O/level credits or equivalents in THREE other subjects (mainly for Education Courses). Education may be accepted as a third A/level subject for those taking courses in Education.
A maximum of two passes at the IJMB examination or Cambridge moderated School of Basic Studies terminal examination or International Baccalaureate from recognized institutions with SSCE/GCE O/Level credits or equivalent in three other subjects (SUBJCET TO UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS).

French and any other two subjects from Arts or Social Sciences

History/Government and any other two subjects from Arts or Social Sciences

Any three subjects. For purposes of registration, ‘O’ level credit pass in Christian Religious Studies is required.
B.A. Philosophy
Any three subjects, at UTME and 5 ‘O’ level credits to include English Language.

Note: (i) Screening will be carried out by the Complexes.
Candidates who applied to other Universities must tender their application receipts and JAMB slips with embossed passports photographs before registration.
Ensure to register only qualified candidates. Consult the Registrar or the Academic Officer for clarification where you are in doubt.
Note: Candidates are to print on-line the guidelines and screening forms labelled Academic Office, Faculty, Department, Student Affairs and Security Unit for completion in duplicate.
