Untitled Document BRIEF HISTORY OF FACULTY OF LAW

The Benue State University Faculty of Law came on stream in the 1993/1994 academic session with a foundation class of seventy (70) students at the 100 level who became our graduates at the close of the 1997/1998 academic session in December. The initial quota of Fifty (50) students which was granted by Nigerian Council of Legal Education was later increased to one hundred (100). It is hoped that when the Faculty is granted full accreditation by the Council, this quota will further be increased.

THE MANAGEMENT OF THE FACULTY

The Faculty is under the leadership of Dr. E.A. Kenen as the Dean of Law. He is assisted by Dr. J.J. Kur as the Deputy Dean.There are two Departments in the Faculty to wit: Department of Commercial and Property Law with Dr. V.V. Tarhule as the Head and (b) Department of Private and Public Law with Dr. L.O. Ogiji as the Head. There are efforts to increase the number of Departments to four (4) in line with the NUC Visitation Panel's recommendation.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

The Faculty offers a single degree of Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) at the undergraduate level. It also offers a postgraduate programme comprising Master of Laws (LL.M) and Doctor of Philosophy in Law (Ph.D).
An outline of the course structure for the various programmes is also laid out on the left menu bar.
