Department of Mass Communication expects to train vibrant young men and women in the theory and practice of communication. The programme would focus on the effective use of communication skills so as to equip them for the task of information dissemination for grassroots mobilization both at the state and national levels. The programme aims at producing at the end of the course, vibrant and intelligent communicators to man organizations in the print and electronic media as well as advertising, public relations and other establishments Mass Comm. PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of Department of Mass Communication is realized from the fact that communication is central to all human endeavors. Consequently, the work of this department is to produce to product students who are not going to be concerned with skills in expressing ideas, altitudes and feeling through a specific medium, but theories that help explain how and why people communicate in certain ways and also predict communication outcome. They should indeed make their contribution in the flow of information on socio-economic and Political affairs, among others, to the Nigeria Society, African and indeed the world.
objectives

• To produce trained manpower in Mass Communication to serve Ministries, Television and Radio Stations, companies, Newspaper houses and Consultancy Services
• To inculcate into its graduates, the ethics of the profession, respect for truth, fairness and a sound philosophy of communication for development within the state and nation so as to promote cooperation and understanding beyond national boundaries

ACADEMIC/ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

University Matriculation Examination (UME)
Candidate for admission into the four-year degree programme in Mass Communication Department should possess five Credits in a Senior Secondary School Certificate or General Certificate of Education or its equivalent, which must include English, and at least a pass in mathematics.

DIRECT ADMISSION

Candidates for Direct Entry Admission shall possess five credit passes in the General Certificate of Education or its equivalent, at not more than two sittings. Two of the subjects shall be at the Advanced Level. Candidates must obtain 5 credits including English Language, and pass in Mathematics at the Secondary School Certificate level teachers grade II or the general Certificate of Education at one sitting with a diploma in Mass Communication at Distinction or Credit level from Benue State University or a recognized institution. Any other qualification considered as equivalent by the senate of Benue State University.
