Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), has formally admitted a new cohort of students into its academic community at its 33rd Matriculation Ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session. The event, held at the New Convocation Square, marked a significant milestone in the University's academic calendar.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, described the ceremony as historic, noting that it was his first matriculation since assuming office on 10th February, 2026. He expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed his commitment to steering the University towards sustained excellence and transformation.

Professor Alabar extended his appreciation to the Executive Governor of Benue State and Visitor to the University, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for the confidence reposed in him to lead the institution. He assured all stakeholders of a transparent, purposeful, and visionary administration anchored on three key pillars: student welfare, staff welfare, and infrastructural development.

Highlighting steps already taken, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that a Taskforce on Utilities has been inaugurated to improve water and electricity supply across the campus. He emphasized the importance of staff motivation through continuous capacity development, improved working conditions, and prompt payment of salaries, while noting that sustained support from the State Government remains vital to achieving these objectives. He further assured that the University would continue to upgrade its facilities through prudent resource management and collaboration with relevant intervention agencies.

Addressing the matriculating students, Professor Alabar revealed that out of 24,774 applicants, 10,026 were offered admission, while 9,101 successfully completed registration and were formally matriculated. He urged the students to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to both academic excellence and good character.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the University's commitment to maintaining high academic standards, noting that its admission cut-off mark is set above the national benchmark. He encouraged students to take full advantage of available facilities, including the library, clinic, counselling centres, and the University's innovation hub.

He also issued a strong warning against social vices such as examination malpractice, cultism, and drug abuse, stressing that the University operates a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct. Students were therefore advised to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations as contained in the Students' Handbook.

Professor Alabar concluded by appreciating parents, guardians, and other stakeholders for their continued support and called for sustained collaboration to address funding challenges and promote the growth and development of the University.

The highlight of the ceremony was the formal presentation of candidates for matriculation by the Provost, College of Health Sciences, and Deans of various Faculties, while the Matriculation Oath was administered by the Registrar.
